scragglers

It is pathetic enough that a whitewashed castle, with turrets and things, should ever have been built in this otherwise honorable place. But it is much more pathetic to see this architectual falsehood undergoing restoration when it would have been so easy to let dynamite finish what a charitable fire began."

Said by none other than Mark Twain, after the old state capitol was occupied and burned by Union troops in the 1800's. He also was quoted as calling it a "monstrosity" and the"ugliest" building on the Mississippi. I think it's pretty wicked, but I'm no literary genius...

This one is a few months old, but I never posted it. I guess I like it more now than I did then.

swampy

Yesterday I set out on a solo trek through the bluebonnet swamp nature area. I liked it because it was dead quiet in the woods and probably the first time I really enjoyed myself here in a long time.

animals animals animals

Every single time I go to the BR animal control to pick out the pets of the week I must have a serious internal dialogue in order to convince myself not to take at least half of them home. All of these animals are so wonderful and incredibly grateful for any human interaction that it really makes you sad they're locked up all day.

I really wanted to take this one home and I'm not even a cat person. Her eye was all funky but she was really sweet.
